Mass & Count Nouns



  1. Use some with plural count nouns and mass nouns.

  2. Use A-An with singular count nouns.

Nouns are divided into two different classes Count & Mass nouns, the rule is that Count nouns can be counted and Mass nouns can not.

Example:

you can say: please give me an egg (egg is countable "count noun")

you can not say: please give me a water (the water is not countable "mass noun")

Practice at home:

a donut and some bacon

some butter and an apple

a pear and some water

complete:

  1. some wine and __ orange

  2. a pineapple ___milk

  3. a watermelon and ____ ketchup

  4. ____soup and ___blackberry

  5. ____bottle and ____juice

note: the bread, soap & ice are not countable
